Kanawha school board to appoint new member to replace late Pete Thaw

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Kanawha County Board of Education is expected to appoint a new board member Wednesday.

The board will meet in special session at 12 p.m. Wednesday to fill the vacancy created after the recent death of longtime board member Pete Thaw.

Thaw had served on the board since 1998. He died Dec.28, 2017 at the age of 86.

More than a dozen people are hoping to be appointed to the seat.

The selected member’s term will run through June 30.
