Kanawha PRC considering charging fee for Coonskin tennis court use

CHARLESTON — The Kanawha Parks and Recreation Commission considered charging a fee to use the Coonskin Park tennis courts at its Wednesday meeting.

Since the courts have been resurfaced, there is a higher demand for court time. The proposed fee would only apply to those using the courts to make money, such as offering lessons.

The Kanawha County Commission previously donated $60,000 to repair the Coonskin courts. The board agreed not to charge the general public or Kanawha County Schools for court time.

A suggested fee was between $5 and $10. If the fee was approved by the board, revenue from the tennis courts could help pay for other projects.
