Kanawha education board renews Duerring’s contract

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Kanawha County Board of Education renewed the contract of Superintendent Ron Duerring on Tuesday, extending his term to July 1, 2019.

The contract was originally set to expire July 1 of this year.

“The Board is pleased with the performance of Dr. Duerring over the past year,” board president Jim Crawford said. “Dr. Duerring handled the work stoppage in an exemplary manner. He also has been able to work with the State and FEMA to continue to move along the construction of the schools that were flooded. Additionally, Dr. Duerring has successfully implemented an online school program that will be beneficial to not only the students of Kanawha County, but the entire state.”

The contract includes a 2 percent pay increase. Duerring will begin his 21 year as superintendent on July 1.
