Kanawha County woman to be sentenced in Saint Albans murder

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County woman will be sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to first-degree murder of a Saint Albans woman last year.

Jessica May Wilson, 28, will face Kanawha County Circuit Judge Duke Bloom at 9:30 a.m.

Wilson admitted to fatally stabbing Nancy Lynch, 66, on Jan. 4, 2014. The stabbing was over money and drugs.

Lynch lived alone in her Saint Albans home, which made Wilson and co-defendant Timothy Paul Shafer, 29, believe she was an “easy target,” according to Kanawha County Assistant Prosecutor Tera Salango.

The pair waited across the street until Lynch arrived home then chased her into the house. Wilson blamed the death on Shafer, telling Judge Bloom in a court hearing last month that the intention was to rob Lynch, not kill her.

Evidence from the trial shows it was Wilson who stabbed Lynch repeatedly. After the murder, Shafer returned to Lynch’s house several times, with a third defendant, Megan Marie Hughes, to steal other items while her body was still there.

Wilson faces life behind bars. Bloom sentenced Shafer to life with no chance for parole. Hughes was sentenced to 1-15 years in prison.
