Kanawha County students eligible for free meals

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha County Schools students will be able to eat breakfast and lunch at school for free as the result of a four-year federal program.

The Community Eligibility Provision provides universal meal service to children in high-poverty areas, in which if at least 40 percent of a school’s students are certified for free meal benefits, the whole school qualifies for the option.

This is the second year Kanawha County Schools has been a participant in the initiative, and all 65 schools will be involved.

Year-round schools begin classes on July 9.
