Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office warns of scammer pretending to be deputy

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of another scammer pretending to be a deputy sheriff.

The person, who claims he is “Deputy Dwight Meadows,” is accused of calling people demanding payment by phone with prepaid cards.

Sgt. Brian Humphreys said in an email if someone has a warrant for their arrest, miss jury duty or miss court, authorities may tell them to go to the courthouse, but will not ask for payment over the phone.
