Kanawha County man identified as burglary suspect shot in home

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. — No charges had been filed as of Sunday against a Kanawha County homeowner who claimed he shot and killed a man who broke into his home near Belle early Saturday morning.

The burglary suspect was identified as Justin William Jones, 33, of Spring Fork Drive near Charleston.

As of Sunday afternoon, deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department were not publicly naming the homeowner.

Investigators did confirm the burglary was not a random incident. According to deputies, the homeowner and burglary suspect had known each other.

Detectives were working through the weekend to learn more about the suspect, his connection to the homeowner and what prompted the alleged break in.

The homeowner called Kanawha County Metro 911 to report the shooting shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday.

Emergency officials responded and found Jones dead in a bedroom.
