Kanawha County kicks off campaign to encourage people to get flu shots

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha County officials are encouraging more people to get their flu shots.

The County Commission teamed up with the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department to kick off the “Project Last Shot” campaign Tuesday.

The health department expects the flu epidemic to last through May.

“One of the reasons why people want to get a shot, and if you see the news, in many people in the country there’s a shortage of flu shots because there’s been so much publicity about the bad flu season. People realize that it’s the thing to do,” department spokesman John Law told WSAZ-TV.

Commissioners said they plan to buy the county’s remaining 4,000 flu shots to allow citizens to receive a free vaccination.

Flu shots will be available at public buildings including the courthouse, city hall and other buildings. Clinic will also be set up at schools, churches and even possibly on KRT buses.

Clorox wipes and Purell hand sanitizer will be available at clinic sites as well.
