Kanawha County high schools recognized for financial aid application increase

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia higher education leaders recognized Kanawha County high schools Friday for their part in increasing the number of high school seniors applying for college financial aid.

The county saw a nine-point increase in the number of students completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Representatives of the Higher Education Policy Commission presented $1,000 awards to Herbert Hoover High School and Sissonville High School, with Herbert Hoover High achieving the greatest gain in the number of students completing the application over the past year.

This was part of the FAFSA Completion Challenge, which was launched in the summer of 2016 after securing funding from the National College Access Network and the Kresge Foundation.
