Kanawha County goes with satellite early voting locations

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha County Clerk Vera McCormick says she will have one employee each from her office staffing the new early voting satellite locations that open for the first time Wednesday morning.

The clerk’s office employee will get help from poll workers and early voting volunteers at the various locations. McCormick said those locations will be secured each evening when it closes for the day.

“All of the locations that we’re going to be in we have a room set aside and we will have keys to that room only–even the people that are in those locations (usually) will not have a key to that room,” according to McCormick.

This is Kanawha County’s first venture into satellite early voting locations. McCormick said the opportunity opened up when the county switched to new touch screen voting machines.

“It’s touchscreen but (voters) will also have that paper ballot in their hands,” she said.

The Voter’s Registration Office in downtown Charleston will remain an early voting site along wit the new locations, Marmet Town Hall, Belle Town Hall, Sissonville Library and the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department detachments in Cross Lanes and Elkview.

Early voting goes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. May 5 is the last day of early voting.
