CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Kanawha County Commission has laid out a timeline to find a replacement for current-Commissioner Dave Hardy.

Governor-elect Jim Justice announced Hardy as the next state revenue secretary on Jan. 10. Hardy will resign as commissioner on Jan. 19.

The Kanawha County Commission will have 30 days to fill the vacancy.

Based on the proposed schedule, the commission will advertise the opening on Jan. 20 and Jan. 25, and will accept resumes until Jan 30 at 5:00 p.m..

At the Jan. 31 commission meeting, a list of applicants will be announced. Public interviews will begin Feb. 2 at 5:00.

In a statement, the commission said the vacancy could be filled that evening, but it has the option of conducting interviews on Feb. 3 and Feb. 7 if needed.

The commission also said this timeline allows a new commissioner to be selected prior to the finalization of the West Virginia Legislature’s budget.

The first day of legislative session is Feb. 8.
