Justice announces Yeager Airport construction

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Contractors will begin conducting emergency repairs and paving work Thursday on the road leading to Yeager Airport.

Gov. Jim Justice announced the project Tuesday, which is estimated to cost $160,000. The paving portion of the project is part of Jim’s Promise, the governor’s initiative regarding road construction.

The road to Yeager Airport has been deteriorating for more than a decade,” Justice said in a statement. “It has gotten to the point where Kanawha County officials and others have expressed a real concern for motorist safety and emergency vehicle access. So, this is going to get done right now.”

Soil nails will be used to stabilize the slides before paving work begins.

“Gov. Justice promised he would fix our roads,” Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said. “He’s doing more than that, he’s building a bright future for West Virginia. We appreciate his leadership on this project. This is a gateway to the entire state of West Virginia and a vital part of the infrastructure of our state. It is important to every citizen of our state.”

Construction is expected to conclude by the end of August.
