Huntington teenager killed as a result of deadly police chase

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Huntington teenager was killed Monday evening after a suspect crashed his vehicle at the end of a police chase.

Sometime around 6:20 p.m., Cabell County dispatchers advised Huntington Police that a Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy was pursuing a vehicle heading towards Huntington’s city limits. Authorities attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic stop in Wayne County, but the driver refused and tried to flee deputies.

Huntington Police officers responded to the area of 20th Street and 8th Avenue and discovered the suspect’s vehicle had crashed into another vehicle, which had been traveling south on 20th Street.

Four Huntington residents were in the second vehicle involved in the incident. The passengers were identified as a 43-year-old male, a 16-year-old male and a 15-year-old female, with a 68-year-old man driving. All four occupants were transported by Cabell County EMS to local hospitals.

The 16-year-old boy died at the hospital as a result of his injuries. The other three passengers remain in local hospitals.

The suspect, a 46-year-old man, was also transported by Cabell County EMS to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. He’s facing one felony count each of DUI causing death, DUI causing serious injury and fleeing in a vehicle while DUI. The suspect is also being charged with two misdemeanor counts of DUI causing bodily injury and one misdemeanor count of being a person prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Police said multiple drug and traffic offenses could also be added.

Huntington Police traffic accident specialists are conducting an investigation.
