Human remains found in Pratt

PRATT, W.Va. — Water crews digging a line in the Kanawha County town of Pratt Monday afternoon discovered human remains.

Pratt Police Chief Eric Eagle said the remains included a skull and leg bones probably from a Native American.

“It was determined that these bones are ancient and I contacted the (WV) Cultural Center and they contacted me,” Eagle said.

The chief said another clue was the discovery of arrowheads alongside the remains.

“We pretty much knew it was an Indian burial but we wanted to confirm it with the sheriff’s department,” he said.

The remains were found only about 42 inches below Washington Ave.

Pratt is along the Kanawha River in eastern Kanawha County and has a history that includes Indian battles. Eagle put the remains in safekeeping until he hears back from state officials.
