Homeless woman charged after downtown office breaking and entering

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — An downtown Charleston office building was ransacked Saturday morning by a woman who told police she was high on meth.

Jennifer Sutherland

According to a news release from Charleston Police, Jennifer Fay Sutherland, 32, who police say is homeless, allegedly broke into the Geary Plaza office building on Washington Street East and went through several cubicles and desks spreading items around the office. Police said there was also a pile of feces near one of the cubicles. Police were uncertain what had been stolen.

Sutherland was first spotted in the office sleeping and was told to leave by a maintenance employee, police said. The maintenance worker took a picture of Sutherland and police spotted her a few blocks away. Police believe there may be a second suspect.

Sutherland was in possession of a needle and other drug paraphernalia when she was arrested, police said.

Sutherland faces a number of charges including breaking and entering. She was lodged in the South Central Regional Jail Saturday.
