Home invader shot in Cross Lanes

CROSS LANES, W.Va. — A suspect in an early morning burglary in Kanawha County is recovering from a gunshot wound.  A second suspect is being sought by sheriff’s deputies.

The incident happened about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Cross Lanes Community.  A family called 911 to report their door had been kicked in and the burglars were in their home.

“They heard people in their living room and stayed in their bedroom away from it, scared. ” said Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Brian Humphreys. “When they got up to go inspect the living room they found out their door had been broken through and while they were in the living room the suspects came back.”

The family tells deputies one of the suspects, a white male, immediately turned an ran.  The second suspect, a black male, stuck around and was shot by the homeowner as he turned leave.  The wounded suspect fell along the roadside not far from the crime scene.  Emergency Medical Technicians attended to the man who was lying along Cross Lanes Drive when deputies arrived.  He’s hospitalized but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Humphreys said the wounded suspect’s name hasn’t been revealed.

“The television, some other electronics, and some other items were removed from the apartment,”Humphreys said. “They had apparently come back, I presume to get more.”

Deputies are continuing to investigate and will present all evidence in the case to the county prosecutor to determine what charges will be filed.
