Further tests produce different results on trick-or-treat substance

OAK HILL, W.Va. — Further testing of a drug found in a young child’s trick or treat bag in Oak Hill Tuesday night show it wasn’t heroin as originally thought.

Oak Hill Police Chief Mike Whisman said the official report from the State Police Crime Lab said the substance was a derivative of marijuana.

A field test pointed toward heroin but Whisman said the crime lab was able to do more conclusive tests.

It incident happened in the area of Hidden Valley. A mother was checking her 3-year-old daughter’s bag of treats when she noticed the powdery substance wrapped in paper.

Upon discovering the wrapped substance along with fingertips from a rubber glove, the mother called police.
