Four Kanawha schools to begin year Wednesday in only two buildings

CLENDENIN, W.Va. — A tough summer comes to a close and a very different school year begins for four Kanawha County schools Wednesday, consolidated into two due to the June 23 flood.

Herbert Hoover High School and Clendenin Elementary, which will both be forced to close their doors in the aftermath of the flood, will share the building with Elkview Middle School and Bridge Elementary, respectively.

The buildings will be shared until portable classrooms are put in place. Herbert Hoover students will arrive at Elkview Middle at 12:30 p.m. after the middle school students have used the building for the morning.

Clendenin Elementary students will share with Bridge Elementary students for the entirety of the school day.

The Kanawha County Board of Education has announced that both Herbert Hoover High and Clendenin Elementary have been declared total losses by FEMA, and will be entirely rebuilt.
