Former lawmaker sentenced to 6 years for child pornography

WINFIELD, W.Va. — A former state lawmaker and Mineral County commissioner was sentenced Monday to six years in prison for possessing child pornography.

Stephen Craig Sluss, 59, pleaded guilty in April to receiving child pornography. He admitted to receiving videos of minors engaging in sexual acts in April 2017. An investigation found he was using a web-based chatting service to access and download child pornography.

Sluss admitted to possessing more than 600 images and videos, some of which featured sadistic conduct.

Sluss will also serve 15 years on federal supervised release after completing his prison term and will have to register as a sex offender. He additionally has to pay a special assessment of $5,000.
