Donald Bogardus, 27, was sworn-in during a ceremony Thursday at Charleston City Hall. Bogardus moved to Charleston recently after nearly 3.5 years with the Metro Police Department.

“I’m looking forward to being here because I’ll be able to grow by toolbox,” Bogardus said. “I’ll be able to learn from other officers here and add to my experience I got in D.C.”

Because he is experienced, Bogardus will get his training at an accelerated pace at the State Police Academy. After that, he’ll be part of an 80-orientation course with the Charleston department followed by the department’s 20-week Orientation and Field Training program.
