Former Capital High principal Giles files lawsuit against Kanawha County BOE

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Former Capital High School principal Clinton Giles filed a lawsuit this week against the Kanawha County Board of Education, and board member Pete Thaw specifically.

Giles, 64, claims that the board and Thaw made it impossible for him to return to Capital after a judge dismissed a misdemeanor charging him with failing to report an alleged sexual assault at the school.

Giles was Capital’s longest serving principal. He further claims in the suit that his reputation was damaged. He was immediately suspended without pay, and asked to be compensated for both lost income and damage to reputation.

His attorney wrote that he was “falsely and ignorantly” accused of wrongdoing.

Giles is suing Thaw and the Board of Education separately.

Dallas King, 18, still faces a sexual assault charge in the alleged incident.
