Flyers arrive in West Virginia for Thanksgiving weekend

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — While millions of Americans are flying home for Thanksgiving, MetroNews caught up with several people who arrived back in West Virginia Wednesday.

“Just visiting family,” said Jade Sites at Charleston’s Yeager Airport. “It feels really good. I miss home a lot.”

Sites had a connecting flight from Florida to Atlanta before heading to Charleston. She said the airport in Atlanta was hectic.

“I had to run to my next flight,” she said. “It was pretty bad.”

The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is defined as Wednesday to Sunday. Wednesday was considered one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Kathryn Tweel, of Charleston, flew in from Boston. She’s a student at Tufts University and said she was happy to see her family again.

“It feels really nice. I’m in Boston for school so it’s definitely nice to come home and have a little break,” she said.

Tweel has big plans with her family this weekend.

“My mom’s sisters are all in town so we’re going to have a big family Thanksgiving and then her cousin’s getting married. It should be a fun time,” she said.

More than 50 million people are expected to be on the roads this weekend with about 3.95 million traveling by air, according to AAA.

As of Wednesday morning, all arrivals and departures at Yeager Airport were on time.
