Florida man arrested following alleged assault

DUNBAR, W.Va. — A Florida man was arrested Wednesday at the Dunbar Plaza Hotel after allegedly attacking his girlfriend and arming himself with a pair of scissors.

According to Dunbar police, James Kenneth Parr, 36, went to the hotel, where his girlfriend worked. Following a disturbance, Parr left and his girlfriend contacted authorities.

Parr returned to the hotel, and Parr’s girlfriend and a co-worker locked themselves in a back room. Parr grabbed a pair of scissors and left the hotel. The girlfriend tried to lock the main lobby doors behind him, but Parr forced himself into the hotel.

Investigators said Parr threw the woman, took her cellphone and stomped on it. He then threw the woman across the lobby. The woman told investigators it felt he also kicked her.

Parr waited for police to arrive, scissors in hand. Parr was in an aggressive stance when police arrived and had to be ordered to drop the scissors.

Parr faces charges of malicious assault, domestic battery, assault during commission or attempt to commit a felony and entry of a building other than a dwelling.
