Flooding closes Putnam fairgrounds

ELEANOR, W.Va. — High water early Tuesday morning forced the closure of the Putnam County Fair in Eleanor until further notice.

High water covered the fairgrounds.

“They have some trailers and other equipment there that’s flooded,” state Homeland Security Chief and Emergency Services Director Jimmy Gianato said.

The animals being shown at the fair were taken to safer quarters. There was no immediate word when the fair would reopen.
