CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Yeager Airport reopened Saturday afternoon after some minor repairs were made to the runway following Friday morning’s deadly plane crash.
Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board gave Yeager crews clearance to begin working on the runway by mid-morning Saturday. It took a few hours to patch a few small gouges made when the cargo plane impacted the runway. Crews also had to transport the left wing of the aircraft from a grassy area to the West Virginia Air National Guard hangar.
The NTSB team removed from crash debris from the runway early Saturday morning.
A few dozen flights were canceled from the time the airport closed Friday to its reopening more than 24 hours later.
Friday’s crash claimed the lives of the pilot and co-pilot. The NTSB scheduled another media briefing for late Saturday afternoon.
