Fire on Charleston’s West Side damages commercial building

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A commercial building on Charleston’s West Side suffered significant damage after catching on fire.

The blaze struck at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the 3100 block of Washington Street West.

Charleston Fire Department Captain David Hodges said the building had unoccupied apartments on the top floor.

The cause of the fire is unknown but an investigation is active.
