Few shootings in Charleston in recent months

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There hasn’t been a shooting involving an injury in Charleston since Jan. 30, according to Charleston Police Department Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper.

“You never want anyone to be shot but that’s really a long period of time without anyone being shot,” Cooper said.

The quiet period followed four homicides in less than a week in late December, early January.

They’ve been fortunate, Cooper said.

“Not to say it won’t happen tomorrow because you can’t predict it,” he said. “The victims and the suspects almost always know each other and there’s motive.”

The last shooting with injury in Charleston was Jan. 30 on MacCorkle Ave.
