FEMA registration deadline pushed back 2 weeks

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Those impacted by the June 23 flood in West Virginia will have an additional two weeks to register for assistance with FEMA.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin requested the extension and it was granted Tuesday morning by FEMA, officials said.

The new registration deadline is now Sept. 7. It had been Aug. 24.

“I am grateful that FEMA has, once again, recognized the devastating impact of this flooding on West Virginians,” Tomblin said in a news release. “Federal assistance has already reached thousands of our residents as they rebuild homes and lives. By extending the timeframe those affected by the flooding have to register with FEMA, we are allowing even more families in need to access this support as communities continue on the path toward long-term recovery.”

FEMA has granted more than $100 million in individual assistance to residents in more than a dozen counties; Clay, Fayette, Greenbrier, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Monroe, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Roane, Summers and Webster.

Registration can be completed at DisasterAssistance.gov, 1-800-621-FEMA or by going to the handful of FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers that remain open in the flood zone.

Sept. 7 is also the new registration deadline for applications for loans from the federal Small Business Administration.
