Fayette County woman arrested in connection with fraud scheme

SCARBRO, W.Va. — A Scarbro woman was arrested Tuesday for her alleged participation in a fraud scheme spanning multiple counties.

WV State Police say Dana Hart has targeted stores in Fayette, Raleigh, Kanawha, and Cabell counties, as well as stores in North Carolina.

She allegedly shoplifted thousands of dollars in merchandise from the stores, then returned it to receive gift cards.

The cards were then sold on the black market for a fraction of their value.

According to a State Police release, similar schemes are becoming increasingly popular in southern West Virginia. In the last two months, five people have been arrested in connection with similar crimes at the Fayetteville and Beckley Lowe’s stores.
