Farrell expected to plead guilty Tuesday in Freedom case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Freedom Industries official Dennis Farrell is expected to plead guilty Tuesday to charges involving the 2014 chemical spill into the Elk River.

Farrell faces three misdemeanor water pollution charges related to the leak of MCHM and other chemicals, an incident that contaminated the drinking water supply for hundreds of thousands of residents in Charleston and the surrounding area last year.

The charges involve negligence in allowing the chemicals and pollutants to spill into the river.

The plea will be heard by U.S. District Judge Thomas Johnston. A plea hearing for former Freedom President Gary Southern, who faces similar charges, is scheduled for Thursday morning.
