Evans reappointed temporary judge in Kanawha County

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Supreme Court Chief Justice Margaret Workman has reappointed former Jackson County Circuit Judge Tom Evans to be a temporary circuit judge in Kanawha County in the seat held by now-retired Kanawha County Circuit Judge Jim Stucky.

The temporary assignment takes effect Monday and will continue until further notice.

Evans, a senior status judge, began filling in for Stucky earlier this year when sickness prevented Stucky from holding court. He was in the position until Workman appointed Senior Status Judge David Pancake on April 23.

It’s anticipated Gov. Jim Justice will appoint a judge to serve the rest of the year sometime within the next few months. Applications from those interested are due next month.

The remaining six years of Stucky’s term will be up for vote in the November General Election and three potential candidates have already filed pre-candidacy papers including Kanawha County Prosecutor Chuck Miller, House of Delegates Chief of Staff Dan Greear and Charleston attorney Tera Salango.
