Elkview mother charged with child neglect in meth incident

ELKVIEW, W.Va. — The grandmother of a 10-month-old baby boy didn’t think her grandchild was acting normal Monday so she called 911. The baby’s mother is now charged with felony child neglect.

Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies allege Miranda Taylor. 24, of Elkview, allowed her son to ingest methamphetamine.

“The baby tested positive for it in a urinalysis at the hospital after its behavior was changed,” Sgt. Brian Humphreys said.

The baby was still showing signs of being under the influence Tuesday, Humphreys said.

“In the hospital still, I don’t think it’s life-threatening but (the family) is greatly concerned,” he said.

Taylor has had some issues with drug abuse and her parents noticed something wasn’t right with the baby.

“They started that (the investigation) with a 911 call,” Humphreys said.

A Kanawha County ambulance crew removed the baby from his mother’s arms.

Taylor was arraigned on the charge of felony child neglect resulting in injury.
