Early voting for Nitro city election to begin Wednesday

NITRO, W.Va. — Early voting for the city of Nitro’s municipal election will get underway this week, as it is held every four years on the first Tuesday of June.

“Early voting starts May 24 and goes through June 4,” said City Recorder Rita Cox. “That includes two Saturday’s; it’s from 9 to 4 in Nitro City Hall Monday through Saturday.”

Mayor Dave Casebolt is running unopposed in the election, as well as all councilmembers with the exception of Ward 1, which has two people running. The city has three councilmembers at-large.

Cox is also running unopposed as the city recorder.

“Sometimes I think the city election got lost in the national offices, and state and countywide offices,” Cox said. “We’re so close; just about a month away. We hope that we’ll have a good turnout this year.”

Election Day is Tuesday, June 7, and polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
