Dunbar man facing numerous charges after alleged theft of Jeep

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. — A Dunbar man is facing charges after allegedly jumping into someone else’s vehicle and driving off with it.

Christopher Rader, 31, allegedly stole a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee from the Go-Mart on 3rd Street in St. Albans Thursday afternoon. The owner had gone inside the gas station and left the car running, police say.

Police say an off-duty Charleston Police officer witnessed the incident and followed the vehicle in his personal car.

The officer confronted the driver and held him at gunpoint until back up arrived. The officer allegedly saw Malden get into a crash with the Jeep and leave the scene.

Rader will be charged with aggravated DUI, failing to register as a sex offender, driving on suspended for DUI, and other charges.
