Duerring to give flood recovery update Monday at Elkview Middle

ELKVIEW, W.Va. — Kanawha County School Superintendent Dr. Ron Duerring is scheduled to update residents of the Elk River communities on school-related flood recovery efforts at a special school board meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Elkview Middle School.

Both Herbert Hoover High and Clendenin Elementary schools were destroyed in the June 23 flood. Portable classroom buildings for the students planned at Elkview Middle and Bridge Elementary have yet to be constructed but officials say progress is being made.

The school board last week entered into an agreement with a management firm that will play a major role in the constructions of the two new schools. Leading sites for the new schools were also discussed.

Herbert Hoover and Elkview Middle students have been attending school on half-day schedules since the school year began. They are sharing the Elkview Middle building. The Clendenin Elementary students have been able to have a full schedule at Bridge Elementary.
