Drug dealer gets sentenced to 8 years in federal prison

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston man was sentenced Tuesday in federal court for carrying and dealing more than 50 grams of methamphetamine.

Brian Keith Dunnigan, 46, will spend eight years in federal prison, announced U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin.

In September, he pleaded guilty to a federal drug charge of possession with intent to distribute 50 or more grams of methamphetamine.

Dunnigan previously admitted that on Apr. 8 he allowed officers with the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team to search his home on Orchard Street. Officers recovered over 100 grams of meth, more than 50 grams of heroin and over $2,500 in cash from the residence. Dunnigan told officers that the drugs and cash were his, that had got the meth from someone in Ohio and that he dealt the drugs in Kanawha county.

The investigation was conducted by the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team, the Charleston Police Department and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
