DOH: I-64 Contraflow lane won’t open until next week

SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. — The contraflow lane on the Interstate 64 rehabilitation project in Putnam County won’t open until sometime next week.

The previously announced Saturday opening date has been pushed back, state Division of Highways spokesman Brent Walker said.

“The weather and some other things have pushed it back to Tuesday or Wednesday. I’m going to say Wednesday morning,” Walker said.

The contraflow lane will take westbound I-64 traffic from near the St. Albans exit about 3.5 miles to just west of the Teays Valley exit. Motorists entering the lane won’t be able to leave it. It will bypass the Scott Depot and Teays Valley exits. The lane will be going west in what is normally an eastbound lane.

Walker said those driving trucks and westbound motorists who want to exit at Scott Depot or Teays Valley will have to stay in the other two lanes. He said the area will well-signed.

The DOH is rehabbing more than 12 miles of I-64 between Scott Depot and Milton.
