Diesel dumping still a mystery

ESKDALE, W.Va. — Investigators with the state Department of Environmental Protection are trying to find out who is responsible for dumping hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel into Cabin Creek near Eskdale in eastern Kanawha County.

The latest dumping came Monday night. It appears intentional, Kanawha County Fire Coordinator C.W. Sigman said.

“(Residents) saw a pick-up truck there with this container in the back of it and then some time later reports came in of a diesel fuel smell and the fire department guys found (the spill) up there,” Sigman said.

Firefighters used special items to contain the spill to the general area.

The fuel may be contaminated, Sigman said.

“You would think if it was good fuel they would want to use it,” he said.
