Dems dinner Saturday night in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia Democratic Party Chair Belinda Biafore says Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards is a good choice to deliver the keynote address Saturday night at the Jefferson Jackson Dinner in Charleston.

Edwards has led his state through flood recovery and some other tough times, Biafore said.

“Here’s a governor who beat the odds. It was a red state and he came back and won,” she said. “He also dealt with the flooding like we have here.”

Biafore predicted Edwards will further pump up a Democratic Party base in the Mountain State that she said is doing well heading toward the Nov. 8 General Election.

“The biggest thing I’ve seen on the campaign trail is excitement and energy. We had a dinner in Marion County just last week and over 400 people came out and there were faces I haven’t seen for a while,” Biafore said.

Democrats lost control of both the state Senate and House of Delegates two years ago.

Doors for Saturday’s dinner will open at 6 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center with the program set to start at 7:15 p.m.
