Deer trapped behind stairs at Town Center Mall to be put down

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A deer that was trapped behind a stairwell at the Charleston Town Center Mall has been removed and will be put down, according to the state Division of Natural Resources.

DNR crews tranquilized the deer Monday afternoon after it had been stuck near the loading zone at the mall since 7 a.m.

Officials said the deer will be put down because it would be tainted if someone tried to hunt and kill the deer for meat.
