CPD believe several people saw bank robber

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police detectives believe several residents saw the man who robbed the BB&T in Kanawha City Tuesday afternoon when he was walking to and from the bank.

Police, who describe the suspect as a light-skinned black man, wearing a black jacket with an attached hood covering his head, blue jeans and carrying a black backpack, have obtained additional video surveillance.

The video shows the man walking up and down 39th Street and Noyes Avenue, CPD Chief of Detectives Lt. Tony Hazelett said.

“One (video) actually catches the suspect getting into an older model black GMC Sierra, with an extended cab and black tonneau cover, he actually circled the area around 39th and Noyes several times,” Hazelett said.

The video, which did not catch an image of the man’s face, showed him walking past several motorists who had slowed at the 39th Street and Noyes intersection.

“Several people passed the suspect, so we are asking anyone with information to contact us,” Hazelett said.

It would have been between 2:00 and 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.

The man also stole a license plate off a similar truck in the parking lot of the DMV office in Kanawha City, Hazelett said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Charleston Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 304-348-6480 or 304-348-6400.
