Couple jailed in Fayette child neglect case

LAYLAND, W.Va. — A Fayette County mother and her boyfriend allegedly left her sick baby at house last weekend after getting no takers when they tried to sell the three-month old child.

The child’s mother, Ashley Nichole Harmon, 25, and boyfriend, Jonathan Flint, 20, both of Layland, are charged with attempting to sell a child and felony child neglect, Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler and Fayette County Prosecutor Larry Harrah said in a news release.

The baby, which is now in foster care, was sick when Harmon and Flint allegedly tried to sell the child for $500 to $1,000. When no one gave them the money, they abandoned the baby, authorities said.

Harmon and Flint are in the Southern Regional Jail on $100,000 bail each.
