Construction of portable classrooms at Bridge Elementary begins

ELKVIEW, W.Va. – The construction of portable classrooms at Bridge Elementary School began Wednesday.

The classrooms will be used by students of Clendenin Elementary School, who have been sharing space at Bridge Elementary this school year because last June’s flood destroyed their institution.

Clendenin Elementary School Principal Vanessa Brown said the modulars should be useable by the end of February.

“I understand that there were some issues with the power lines and the data lines,” Brown said. “That was really the only challenge so far.”

Brown said she cannot wait for the portables to be fully installed, though she has seen positive things come as a result of Bridge Elementary and Clendenin Elementary sharing one school.

“The greatest benefits have been that the teachers have had someone to collaborate with, and the students have enjoyed having new friends,” Brown said.

On Monday, Kanawha County Schools Superintendent Ron Duerring announced plans to consolidate Bridge Elementary and Clendenin Elementary into one new school.
