Clay County man shot after allegedly making threats to father

HARTLAND, W.Va. — A Clay County man was shot multiple times by his father after allegedly making threats to kill him.

According to the West Virginia State Police, Mark Workman was staying at his father’s home in Hartland. His father, also named Mark, had not been at the house for at least four days.

The shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. in Hartland.

The father told troopers when he arrived, his son was holding a shotgun and threatening to kill him.

The younger Workman was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital with unknown injuries.

If he survives, troopers said he will face criminal charges. He had been previously charged and was not allowed to possess a firearm.
