City of Nitro celebrates Halloween with annual Hoedown celebration

NITRO, W.Va. — The City of Nitro kicked off the season of candy and costumes with their annual Halloween Hoedown celebration Monday night.

City Council members provided families in attendance with free hotdogs and plenty of candy for the kids.

Nitro city council member Joe Murphy was there and happy to see such a great turnout.

“We want to be able to give back to the community,” Murphy said. “I love seeing all of these kids out here. That’s what we need to be about is getting the families together and having a good time.”

Murphy said council has a goal of making Nitro one of if not the best city in the state of West Virginia.

“We want to provide a great environment to keep people in the city. We want to be the best small city in the state and I think we are,” said council member Murphy.

Multiple city officials and the Nitro Fire and Police Departments also participated.
