Christmas weather stormy and soggy

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Thunderstorms and flooding are a possibility in West Virginia over the Christmas holiday, the National Weather Service said.

Rain is forecasted to move into much of the state by Wednesday evening with the chance for strong storms with an initial system, according to NWS Meteorologist Jonathan Wolfe.

“The first one will impact the areas (Wednesday night) into (Thursday morning) and that one you may see a little more summertime weather with some thunderstorms,” Wolfe said.

After a cloudy, warm Christmas Eve, a second front will arrive Christmas Day. It also will have showers and thunderstorms. Some areas could have high water, according to Wolfe.

“That’s a concern of ours. It’s hard to say right now. It depends where that stationary front sets up. Right now, it (flooding) is a possibility,” he said.

Record highs for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in West Virginia, around 70 degrees, will be challenged.
