Chili and craft beer event to benefit animal rescue foundation set in Nitro

NITRO, W.Va. — There will be something for everyone at the Wagging Tails and Nitro Ales event and all the proceeds will go towards the same cause: Save the lives of dogs in Kanawha County and surrounding areas.

The annual chili cookoff and craft beer festival takes place on Saturday in Nitro and all money benefits the Dog Bless animal rescue foundation operations.

“We get more visibility from surrounding areas when we work with cities like Nitro,” Anthony Cassis, President of Dog Bless told Joe Stephens from WMOV in Ravenswood.

“This is our largest fundraiser, so in addition to the visibility and letting people know we are out there and we need help from volunteers, we also get our financial support from this event.”

The event is open to the public is at 2nd Avenue and 21st Street at Living Memorial Park in downtown Nitro from Noon to 3 p.m. There will be samples of chili and craft beer as well as vendor booths set up, and live music playing.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at www.nitroales.com and cost between $25 and $30. Tickets include beer samples from among 40 different craft brews, five chili sampling tickets, and a tote bag. A VIP package is available for $50 which adds early admission, a beer education session, and a t-shirt.  Additional chili sampling tickets are available for purchase.

Cassis said Dog Bless operations consist of vetting bills, transporting dogs to out of the state rescues, and helping families that want to provide foster care for dogs.
