Charleston residents shop for last minute groceries before Jonas hits

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — As Winter Storm Jonas approached Charleston Friday morning, residents were still out shopping for some last minute food items planning to be snowed in for the weekend.

“It’s something I’ve never seen before,” said Foodland employee Carl Bowman. “Potatoes are off the shelf, bread; the staples. Batteries and stuff.”

Dail Harris of Charleston came for a last minute shopping trip for some luxury items.

“We’ve got enough staples but I’m just getting some snacks and that sort of stuff,” he said. “I got to get cigarettes and snacks and we’ll be good to go.”

As the snow began to fall heavier, Brandy Spaulding said she expected to be snowed in for at least a few days.

“Looking outside right now, it’s looking like we’re going to be in for the weekend.”
