Charleston residents plead not guilty to elderly woman’s death

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Three Charleston residents accused of elderly abuse pleaded not guilty Wednesday to related charges.

Lisa Dunlap, Kayla Rogers and John Rogers face charges in connection with the death of 88-year-old Norma Dunlap in May.

Their trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 24.

According to authorities, Norma Dunlap was found at her Beuhring Avenue home covered in bugs and dried human waste. Her left leg was also rotting between her knee and ankle. She died after being transferred to Hubbard Hospice House.

Police said trash and animal waste was found throughout the home, and drug paraphernalia used to smoke crystal methamphetamine was also discovered. Two juveniles were found in an upstairs bathroom.

Lisa Dunlap told police she was the primary caregiver of her mother.

Kayla and John Rogers and the children’s parents, and Kayla Rogers is Norma Dunlap’s granddaughter.

Bonds for all three individuals were increased Wednesday to $50,000 cash only.
