Man wanted in West Side shooting taken into custody

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston man that was wanted in connection with a Thursday morning shooting on the West Side has been taken into custody.

Police said Alexander “Alex” Martel Brown, 37, was taken into custody without incident late Thursday afternoon.

Brown will be charged with malicious wounding as he allegedly shot Jonathan Murphy, 38 of Charleston, in the arm in the 1500 block of 2nd Avenue around 7:30 a.m.

Authorities said Murphy was transported to the hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.

The release further stated that Brown also had an active warrant for first-degree robbery stemming from an incident occurring Wednesday afternoon.
